Nihon Budokan Koppo-Jutsu (日本武道館骨法術) literally means “Japanese Martial Arts Academy” or simply called Koppo. In this DVD, we will learn and practice Koppo Jutsu by ourselves with sensei Masashi Haribe. Koppo (Core Dharma) is an esoteric Japanese martial art with a unique palm attack technique (iron palm).
The legend of KOPPO mentions the founder – Komaro Otomo in AD 738 as an grappling and striking wandering expert. The name means – Kotsu(bone) and Po (method). Otomo was using his blend of techniques to put down a more stronger enemy who reported to feel the blow to the bones despite the armor. Otomo went further, inquire many martial systems and sumo grappling to create Tachi Koppo – standing fight and Newaza Koppo – unarmed ground fighting.
Kotsu means also nobility so the system was connected to nobiliy classes. Later Koppo was used for “hardened hands and feets” – or capable of delivering extremely hard blows / strikes / special kicks (shippo)
The final stage of Koppo is defeating the opponent without being defeated, hitting without being hit – extremly important especially when you fight with or against blades and swords – mentions Horibe sensei !
The art of Koppojutsu teaches its students how to attack directly to the core of a threat. On the simplest, and purely physical level, this means attacking an enemy’s skeleton system (the core frame of his body). As the student progress, he will begin to understand and implement this philosophy to overcome an enemy mind and eventually spiritually. The techniques of Koppojutsu are direct and extremely efficient. They typically have few movements and end quickly, with each attack maximizing the pain, physical damage, and mental stress dealing, while preserving the student’s energy, balance, and power.
